WARRIORS coach Sunday Chidzambwa has included Nottingham Forest star Tendayi Darikwa in his squad for the upcoming back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against DRC Congo although his availability remains doubtful as he is yet to acquire a Zimbabwean passport.
The Warriors will first travel to Kinshasa for a Group G qualifier scheduled for October 13 before coming back home for the return leg to be played three days later at the National Sports Stadium.
Darikwa was one of the new faces named in the 23-man squad which is headlined by the return of Belgium-based midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, who missed the last match against Congo due to a knee injury.
The 26 year-old England-born right back was initially included in the squad for the last encounter against Congo before being excluded at the last minute after attempts to regularise his citizenship hit a snag.
Darikwa has featured for the Warriors in friendly matches but needs a Zimbabwean passport to make him eligible for competitive matches such as Afcon qualifiers.
Zifa however indicated in a statement Wednesday that Darikwa “is expected to have his documentation in order for the crucial matches.”
The duo of Czech Republic based defender Costa Nhamoinesu and China-based forward were not included in the squad due to supposed injury problems although they have been featuring their clubs.
Nhamoinesu returned from an injury lay off recently and has been featuring regularly for Sparta Prague while Mushekwi has also been scoring regularly for his Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang.
Amazulu midfielder Ovidy Karuru, who also missed the last match through injury, has been recalled while USA-based striker Lucky Mkosana was dropped after failing to impress the coaching department following his maiden call up ahead of the Congo match.
Warriors skipper Knowledge Musona is expected to spearhead a largely unchanged strikeforce which include inform Kaizer Chief forward Khama Billiat, Evans Rusike of Supersport United and the duo of Talent Chawapihwa and Knox Mutizwa who play for Baroka FC and Golden Arrows respectively.
