HOW Mine have registered 29 players for their Caf Confederation campaign, with 12 new faces having joined the Bulawayo-based side.
The biggest signing is Under 20 goalkeeper and Aces Academy’s Donovan Bernard, who spent the second half of 2013 at Motor Action.
The Bulawayo side have also snapped four former Dynamos players – Morris Kadzola, George Magariro, Wonder Sithole and Nicholas Alifandika, who was at relegated Black Mambas last season.
Sithole spent the season at Buffaloes while Magariro was at Caps United, though he barely featured.
They have also released four players – Nqobile Mpala, Khumbulani Banda, who will re-join Highlanders, Simon Njeleza and Arnold Ndiweni.
The squad has a mixture of experience and youth as the gold miners are targeting chasing honours in the Premier Soccer League where they have already qualified for the BancABC Sup8r Cup and the Mbada Diamonds Cup where they lost in the final last year.
“We want to challenge for honours in all the competitions we are going to participate in next year and I believe we have a strong squad that will compete,” said coach Philani Ncube.
They date Chuoni FC of Zanzibar in the preliminary round of the competition on the weekend of February 7-9 at Barbourfields Stadium.
Monomotapa’s Kudakwashe Musharu, Harare City’s Tendai Ngulube, Triangle’s Courage Denias, Marvel Samaneka have also been snapped up.
Meanwhile, the How Mine leadership is undecided on the sponsorship package from Mbada Diamonds as it includes branding rights on their jerseys.
Mbada, by virtue of their contract with the PSL are supposed to sponsor the winners of the competition-Highlanders, but the Bulawayo giants are banned from Caf’s inter-club competitions, leaving How Mine as potential recipients.
How Mine are owned by gold mining concern Metallon Gold Zimbabwe.
Club chairman Mlondolozi Nkomo said a decision will be made by Monday.
