NGEZI Platinum Stars underlined their title credentials with a crushing 5-1 victory against a hapless ZPC Kariba at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro-Ngezi on Saturday to temporarily move to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log standings on Saturday.

Unbeaten Ngezi Platinum have now won their last three consecutive matches as they continue their revival after kickstarting their 2023 season with four consecutive draws.

The platinum miners’ victory was inspired by Walter Vuwa, who scored a goal in each half while the trio of Nigel Makumbe, Takunda Benhura, and Leslie Kashitigu were also on target for the hosts.

ZPC got their consolation goal from Leeroy Murape.

Ngezi Platinum coach Takesure Chiragwi, who took over the head coaching reins from former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari last season appears to have found the winning formula and he was pleased with his team’s performance.

“I think we had a good day in the office. It’s good playing at home and this is our first win here. I think it’s a massive win for us. I am happy with the boys and the way we played. We really wanted to win. Our game plan was to win the game in the first 15 minutes,” an elated Chiragwi said after the match.

Meanwhile in the results of other matches played on Saturday Manica Diamonds also trashed visiting Black Rhinos 4-0 at Gibbo to move to third position on the log while Bulawayo Chiefs continued their good run of form with a 2-1 victory against Yadah at Luveve.

Match-day seven continues Sunday with the major highlight being at the National Sports Stadium where old foes Caps United and Dynamos face off in the big Harare derby.

After being displaced at the top of the log by Ngezi Platinum Stars, Caps United would be hoping to reclaim the top position while for Dynamos it’s an opportunity to get their season back on track after run of inconsistent form in recent weeks.

Unbeaten Highlanders will be aiming to maintain their solid start to the season when they host Hwange at Barbourfields while Triangle United host Chicken Inn at Gibbo.

Champions FC Platinum face a tricky away tie against Herentals at the National Sports Stadium with Cranborne Bullets and Sheasham, who are both yet to register wins this season set to face off at Baobab.
