CAPS United reclaimed top position on the log standing following after edging minnows Yadah at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday while FC Platinum’s woes continued after blowing away a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw with Manica Diamonds at Mandava.

After last week’s Harare derby defeat to Dynamos which stretched their winless run to three matches, Makepekepe were desperate to return to winning ways against struggling Yadah.

The match appeared to be heading for a goalless draw until Yadah defender Brian Kadamanja’s late own goal from Godknows Murwira’s cross secured the victory for Caps United.

Chitembwe was pleased with the win after a difficult match against Yada, who had defended brilliantly until the late collapse.

“We expected to win the three points but at the same time we did not expect it to be easy but at the end of the day we feel good that we were able to collect three points. I think they have eluded us for the last two or three matches so we are extremely delighted to collect the three points,” Chitembwe said.

“I thought we were in complete control of the game the difference today was that they were content on sitting back. They sat in their half and when a team sits its denying you spaces to exploit. And I never thought they would sit the way they but I am happy with the way we managed the second half,” Chitembwe added.

At Mandava, defending champions’ poor start to the season continued after they wasted a two-goal lead to be held to a stalemate against visiting Manica Diamonds.

The draw, which came on the back of two consecutive draws and a loss in their last three matches certainly added pressure on coach Norman Mapeza, who on Monday threatened to quit following a controversial defeat at the hands of Herentals.

After a goalless draw, FC Platinum broke the deadlock in the 47th through Innocent Muchaneka before Lawrence Mhlanga the lead in the 58th minute.

Manica Diamonds however gave themselves a lifeline through Gerald Bero’s penalty in the 65th minute they got the equaliser 10 minutes from full-time through Fortune Binzi.
