SHEPHERED CHINYANI might not have fame and fortune, but the 59 year old veteran musician is satisfied with what he has achieved so far.
The Dzivarasekwa-based Chinyani is content with having groomed most of the country’s celebrated musicians who are today riding high in the music circles.
Talk of Sungura maestro, Alick Macheso, Madzibaba Nicholas Zachariah, John Chibadura, Tinei Chikupo, First Farai, Freddy Manjalima and many others, far too many to mention, they all have been through the hands of Chinyani.
Yet the father of any children has nothing much to show for it, except the pride of knowing that many have crossed because of him.
“I get so annoyed when people ask me why I have not progressed in music when those that came through me are doing well. I am not God and I do not decide my fate,” Chinyani said.
He said when he imparted his skills to musicians he never anticipated to benefit materially from it, but was proud to see his products succeed in life.
“I am the real senior lecturer because I have taught many a musician to play the guitar. I am not jealous of these guys and I like it when they make it in music,” he said.
Chinyani said it was him who brought Macheso from Shamva and stayed with him at his house. He said both Chibadura and Zachariah at one time stayed at his house where he assisted them sharpen their skills.
