THE International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX), Thursday elected the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe chapter’s national director, Tabani Moyo into its influential governing council.
Moyo was elected during the IFEX annual general meeting which was held in Berlin, Germany. He joined 12 other council members who will serve two-year term from 2019-2020.
In statement, Moyo said he is delighted to have been elected and become an IFEX member. The MISA director said his election was a vote of confidence in the work his organisation continues to do advocating for access to information as well as freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.
“This is an affirmation that MISA is an evolving brand whose impact is recognised by global institutions such as IFEX. This milestone is not about me as an individual and team leader, but also an expression of confidence in the trustees, board, secretariat, members of MISA and indeed the entire stakeholder chain.
“In 2015, we rebranded as an institution and become driven by the value proposition of being the thought leader, knowledge institution and expertise organisation. I think this bears testimony to our humble efforts in living up to this commitment,” Moyo said.
“I’m grateful to the IFEX membership for bestowing this leadership mantle on fellow councillors and myself until 2020 and commit to performing my responsibilities to the best of my abilities.”
IFEX is a global network based in Toronto, Canada with membership of more than 100 organisations.
Its responsibility like that of MISA is to promote and defend freedom of expression.
