A 35 YEAR OLD intern working as a cashier at Profeeds Masvingo branch nicked over $7 000 in two months after tampering with the company’s cash sale system, a local court heard Friday.
Simon Hondo pleaded not guilty to fraud charges when he appeared before a Masving magistrate.
He was remanded out of custody to 28 May, after his defence lawyer, Charles Magomere of Matatu and Partners had applied for his discharge at the end the state’s case citing inconsistences in the evidence produced by the state.
Prosecutor Makaita Chikamhi told the court that between November last year and January this year, Hondo sold Profeeds products and received various monies from the company’s customers.
Court heard that during that period Hondo tampered with the company’s computer system which records Daily Till Cash Ups and under recorded cash he had received for the day.
He would then submit the under charged daily till cash ups receipts together with the cash to his superior for banking.
The fraud was discovered in February during a routine audit which unearthed anomalies between the Daily Retail Inventory Sales Summary obtained from his computer and the amounts on the Daily Till Cash ups.
Profeeds was defrauded of $ 7 491-50 and nothing was recovered.
