BULAWAYO based musician, Majahawodwa Ndlovu, popularly known by his stage name, Jeys Marabini, has set his sights on spreading his influence and growing his international fan base.
Marabini will next month return to the studio to record a new album which he hopes will catapult him onto the international stage and cement his place as one of Zimbabwe’s leading artistes.
His eighth offering, which he hopes to release in the middle of the year, comes after a highly successful project, Isilo, which is doing extremely well in the market.
In an interview with Marabini said they have already started putting plans into motion for his upcoming album.
“My latest album has been doing well in the market and people are now expecting a new album from me. I always produce music that lasts for a long time and my last album was done two years ago, so it’s high time I produce another one.
“I believe the new album will be one of my best. I always want to improve my standard whenever I produce a new project. We will be in the studio for three months as from February and the album is likely to be out mid-year,” said Marabini.
The album will be recorded in Bulawayo and produced by 10th District.
While reluctant to reveal the names of the artists who will feature in the album Marabini announced that he will feature Dendera musician, Sulumani Chimbetu, in one of the songs.
“I do not want to spoil the surprise but I can reveal that one of the artists who will feature in the album is Sulumani Chimbetu. He will definitely feature in one of my songs. I am very happy that we will be working together.
“I loved Simon Chimbetu’s music and he was the first musician to promote my work. I did my first ever tour as a solo musician with him and he encouraged me a lot,” he said.
The gifted vocalist who fronts the Kozekulunge band noted that he will maintain his distinct sound while at the same time producing an album that will appeal on the international market.
Since making his debut on the music scene with his album, Emarabini, in 2002, Marabini has steadily grown to become a force to reckon with countrywide.
Last year, Marabini and his band embarked on their maiden tour to Austria where they attracted full houses.
