Kaindu targets Mbada Diamonds Cup success

HIGHLANDERS’ desperate search for a major Cup continues this weekend with a Mbada Diamonds Cup date against Triangle on Sunday.
The former league champions will be at their favourite hunting ground, Barbourfields Stadium, against PSL debutants, Triangle, who are making the Mbada Cup maiden appearance.
Since bagging the 2006 league title, Highlanders have not won a major trophy.
They however lifted the Independence Trophy in 2011 but their search for a prestigious title has been elusive. They nearly claimed the 2011 BancABC Sup8r Cup, but were edged 1-0 in the final by Motor Action.
With their league fortunes waning by each day, Highlanders coach, Kelvin Kaindu, understands the growing impatience among fans for a piece of silverware.
“It would be good to go all the way and win this competition,” Kaindu said.
“We know we have recently hit a bad patch even in the league race so we have to guarantee ourselves of a season with something to show for our work.
“For standing behind us even during trying times, the fans deserve something so that they are happy.”
The only meeting between Highlanders and Triangle ended in a 2-1 favour of the Bulawayo giants, in a league match in April.
In the inaugural edition of the Mbada Cup in 2011, they were embarrassingly booted out in the first round by struggling Zimbabwe Saints, who went on to be relegated at the end of that season.
Last season they made a quarter final exit at the hands of Monomotapa, who beat them 3-2.
