SOUTH Africa: Kaizer Chiefs forward Michelle Katsvairo has been offered a rare chance of international football after being included in the Zimbabwe squad to play at the upcoming COSAFA Castle Cup.
Katsvairo is set to move out from Chiefs on loan next season after struggling to impose himself in his first year at Naturena, and playing in the regional tournament will provide the platform to remind suitors of his abilities.
The 27-year-old has not played for the Warriors since last year’s move to Chiefs, where he managed just 14 appearances and two goals all season.
His last taste of action was on December 14 last year when he played 50 minutes against Bloemfontein Celtic.
Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa has since handed an international lifeline to Katsvairo, who is amongst five South African-based players named in the team.
Also in the squad is George Chigova (Polokwane City), Ovidy Karuru (AmaZulu), Eric Chipeta (Ajax Cape Town) and Knox Mutizwa (Golden Arrows).
The only survivor from the squad that was selected for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals earlier this year is goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya.
Worth noting is the inclusion of young forwards Bukhosi Sibanda, who is the current top goal scorer in Zimbabwe where he plays for Bantu Rovers, and Prince Dube from Highlanders.
Zimbabwe, who are in Group B in the COSAFA Castle Cup, kick off the tournament against Mozambique next Monday, then play Madagascar two days later after which they close off the group stage against Seychelles on June 30.
The Group B winners will play Swaziland in the quarter-finals.
All matches are to be played in the North West province.
