KAIZER Chiefs defender Willard Katsande has said that one of his aspirations is to get a national call-up to his national team Zimbabwe
Katsande had a successful season with Amakhosi winning two trophies with them and also ensuring that the defence was tight at the back.
He said he believes that playing for Kaizer Chiefs has helped him to improve a lot in his game and he now believes that he can go back and add value to his national team.
“It has been an amazing season for me, and I now feel that I am ready to go back and play for the national team. The things that I have learnt at Kaizer Chiefs are incredible and I have grown more in my game,” he said.
Kastande said playing in a foreign country is always going to be a challenge, because at times you don’t have a choice about how you want to play, but you must just take the instructions and perform.
“It is not really a tough task, I mean I had to change my style from time to time so that I meet the desired needs that are expected of me,” he said.
“Well, fortunately enough I am aware that my job is to deliver and not complain and I think that is what helped me to finish well with Chiefs,” he said.
The defender thanked his coach Stuart Baxter for helping him during the pre-season.
“I must thank coach Baxter for having such faith and confidence in me. He took his time to work with me during the pre-season period so that I was ready,” he said.
Baxter says Katsande was one of the five players who helped Chiefs to their League and Cup double.
“He was a rash-tackling hooligan when I got here,” Baxter said. “We played a friendly and he gave away a penalty by almost breaking someone’s leg.
“Then we played Free State Stars and he kicked someone up the backside.
“I told him to learn the job as a defensive midfielder, or he has no future with this club.
“He told me I should teach him how to do this job and he turned out to be a modern defensive midfielder. He gave us balance.”Advertisement
