FORMER Local Governance Minister Saviour Kasukuwere will on Tuesday appear at the Harare Magistrates Court over the abuse of office.

Attorneys for the former Zanu PF politician said he will be charged with abuse of office.

“He will appear Tuesday morning facing four counts of abuse of office,” said Harare lawyer Jonathan Samukange.

Kasukuwere, 47, was on Monday detained at Rhodesville police station in Eastlea.

One of the charges is related to the case of Shuvai Gumbochuma who was arrested last week on allegations of fraudulently acquiring vast tracts of land from the Ministry of Local Governance worth more than $2 million.

Gumbochuma is sister to former first lady Grace Mugabe.

Kasukuwere has previously appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on border jumping charges which were dismissed by judges after it was established that his life was in danger and there was no other recourse for him at the time.

The once-powerful ruling party commissar fell from grace after former president Robert Mugabe was toppled by the military last November.

Kasukuwere and two other loyalists of the fallen leader escaped into exile as their G40 faction lost the ruling party’s internecine war over the succession of Mugabe who is now 95 years old.
