KAIZER Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande believes Zimbabwe’s PSL connection will serve them well at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Warriors have numerous players in their AFCON squad that compete in South Africa’s topflight, including captain Katsande, Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat, Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro and Bidvest Wits targetman Cuthbert Malajila.
“We are on the same page in terms of understanding the modern game, because we play against each other week-in, week-out. It makes it easy to play together because we know what to expect from one another,” Katsande told his club’s website.
Katsande said his nation aim to reach the knockout stages of the competition, having been paired with Algeria, Tunisia and Senegal in a formidable Group B.
“Our plan is to qualify for the knockout stage, but we will treat each game as it comes. We will focus on the here and now, which is to do well in the group stage.”
To that end the former Ajax Cape Town man feels it is crucial his side defeat Algeria in their tournament opener in Franceville, Gabon on Sunday.
