WARRIORS captain Willard Katsande who plays his club football for South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs has called on his teammates to get the new year off to a good start when they face Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Kaizer Chiefs host the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in an Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium this weekend, with an eye for revenge following their Telkom Knockout final defeat from last year.
Katsande has also targeted the encounter as an opportunity for Chiefs to gain ground on the log leaders, whom they currently trail by five points.
“We have to win this one. It’s time to climb up the ladder,” the Zimbabwean international told his club’s official website.
“To get back to where we belong we have to win games.”
The 29-year-old is raring to go and says the players are professional enough to know that they needed to keep fit during the recent festive break.
“The break didn’t affect us that much. We are professionals and we knew what to do to stay tuned during the break.
“And, don’t forget we closed 2015 with a morale boosting 2-1 win over Bidvest Wits, so we just have to continue from where we left off,” he added.
Katsande believes playing at home will give Chiefs the edge, and labels this weekend’s tie “a six-pointer”, which he says they need to win.
“That’s our home game. We have to win to gain the three points at stake. Of course, we also play to preserve our pride.
“Beating Sundowns will mean that we collect three and they will lose out on three. So this is a six pointer of a match.”
