Katsande: Team come first

YET another man of the match award for Willard Katsande has left him as a real candidate for Kaizer Chiefs’ Player of the Season, but the midfielder insists he is merely doing what is necessary to help the team succeed.
The Zimbabwe international was instrumental in Amakhosi’s 2-0 win over Golden Arrows on Wednesday, eventually taking home the match ball after helping the team open up a three-point lead at the top of the Premier Soccer League standings.
And while there are plenty of suggestions that Katsande will swoop the club’s top individual accolade at the end of the season, the playmaker insists his focus remains solely on helping the Soweto giants earn positive results.
“The coach (Stuart Baxter) is helping me a lot. My team-mates and myself stay hungry to do more. The talk of Player of the Season is secondary in my mind. What I want to do is to help my team win things,” he told Chiefs’ official website.
“If we continue to play as a team, we will reach our goal. The supporters are also playing their part by encouraging us and attending our games. They are the 12th player and we wish they keep coming to the stadium to support us.
“We will go far with their support. We love them a lot.”
Chiefs will continue their PSL title defence on Saturday when they face second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns in a match which could have far-reaching consequences in the race for glory this season.Advertisement
