A KWEKWE man, who killed his wife in cold blood through stabbing her three times when the couple was booked in a Harare hotel on Sunday, was arraigned before court facing murder charges.
Tigere Sinaravo (38), who was now staying in Mbare, Harare, on Wednesday appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa for allegedly murdering Zara Joice Sodai.
He was remanded in custody after the state indicated it wanted him mentally examined first.
“The state wants to proceed in terms of Section 26 of the Mental Health Act. He will be examined by two doctors before he comes back to court,” prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa said when Sinaravo was brought to court.
The matter was remanded to November 7.
The allegations against Sinaravo arose on October 22 this year at Krinet Lodge in Harare’s Kopje area.
Court heard the two were booked at the lodge Sunday night after the deceased visited her husband who is renting a room in Mbare.
According to police, the wife had travelled from Kwekwe.
It is further alleged Sinavaro then suggested the two should find a lodge to book into for the night since his Mbare lodgings were “uncomfortable”.
They then booked into the city lodge and it is suspected that an argument arose during the night, leading to him stabbing his wife thrice on the neck, killing her instantly.
“The two had a misunderstanding resulting in the accused drawing a flick knife and stabbed the now deceased three times on the left side of the neck resulting in her death,” read part of court papers.
According to police, they are still investigating to ascertain what could have transpired when the couple sought accommodation into the lodge.
The offence came to light after Sinaravo sent a text message to his relative identified as Sharon Mudutu informing her that he had killed his wife.
