FORMER National Housing Minister and legislator Fidelis Mhashu has died, his party MDC-T announced Tuesday.

He was 76.

“The MDC has learned with extreme sadness the loss of one of the founding fathers of party of excellence, Hon Fidelis Mhashu,” said the MDC information department in a statement.

“A fearless defender and veteran fighter for human rights, Hon Mhashu passed on at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Monday night.”

The MDC founding legislator served as party MP for Chitungwiza North for a period and later became National Housing and Social Amenities Minister during the country’s short-lived inclusive government era.

Mhashu, a former Seke Teachers College principal lecturer, is survived by his wife, Monica, four children and nine grandchildren.

Mourners are gathered at House No. 2317 Unit B, Seke, Chitungwiza.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
