ZIMBABWEAN authorities have confirmed one more coronavirus case in Harare after tracing and testing people who had contact with late Zororo Makamba, who died on Monday, becoming the country’s first victim of the global pandemic.

This brings the total of confirmed cases in Zimbabwe to three and one death.

“As of today, the number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in the country is now 3, ” said the Ministry of Health in its official daily updates circular Tuesday.

“Today the National Microbiology Reference Lab tested 15 specimens, the majority being from contacts of the deceased’s case.

“One male tested positive for Covid-19, more details will follow.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday abandoned his Munhumutapa government offices for State House after it emerged Makamba has visited the offices this past week.

Meanwhile, the country’s health ministry also said a pregnant woman who recently travelled from South Africa has been placed on isolation at her home after showing symptoms of the disease.

The ministry announced that she travelled to South Africa on February 28 this year and came back on March 7.

Upon her return, she complained about chest pains, dry cough and shortness of breath and visited Masvingo Provincial hospital where experts examined before isolating her at her home.

Results of tests carried out on her are not yet out.
