HIGHLANDERS will not sign former Warriors and Orlando Pirates defender Zvenyika Makonese who has been on trial at the club for the past two weeks.
The 36-year-old featured for Highlanders reserves on Sunday in the 2-1 defeat to Division One side Black Boots.
But the Bulawayo giants’ assistant coach Mark Mathe said they have no plans for Makonese.
“He has been training with us for a while now. He is still a good player and there is no doubt about his experience. But unfortunately we are not going to sign him,” Mathe said.
Makosene tried his luck at a time when Highlanders signed another central defender Felix Chindungwe who can also play at right-back or as an anchorman.
Now priority at Highlanders has shifted to the signing of a striker following the beefing up of other departments.
Meanwhile, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu was expected back in Zimbabwe from the UK on Thursday.
Kaindu had been in England attending a Uefa B coaching course and his return is on time for the weekend’s Cephas Msipa Charity Trophy match against Chapungu.Advertisement
