SOUTH Africa: Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says the club can make do without Khama Billiat should the star decide to sever ties with the Brazilians.
With his contract due to expire come the end of the season, Billiat is currently locked in negotiations with Sundowns over a new deal.
The Zimbabwean would have no shortage of suitors should he decide to move on and has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and France whilst Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly keeping tabs on developments at Chloorkop.
Mosimane has confirmed the club are engaging with Billiat with the intention of keeping him beyond 2018.
“Khama is on his last year and we’re trying to renew the contract. If he is not going to renew we continue, the same when Rulani (Mokwena) left, we continued. Sundowns is a very strong team,” said Mosimane.
“We’re two games away from the Champions League final and Khama never played Champions League this year, never, so what’s the problem?”
Mosimane has revealed that his team has already started to make plans in case Billiat decides to leave Sundowns with players like George Lebese having already arrived at Chloorkop.
“It’s ok, Khama doesn’t finish all the games. Every year he misses 8-10 games with injuries, so we are prepared,” said the former national team coach.
“We lost [Katlego] Mphela but we contined, we have won cups. We lost [Elias] Pelembe and we won cups. We lost Cheeseboy [Lebogang Mokoena], we won cups. We lost Rama [Ramahlwe Mphahlele] we won the Champions League. At Sundowns we continue. I will be gone and someone else will win the league. So life goes on.
“If he renews we love him, he is a good player but if he doesn’t want to renew what else can we do, it’s his life.
“But we would love him to stay, we want him to stay and I think he will stay.”
