SOUTH Africa: Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Khama Billiat says they cannot afford to lose the CAF Champions League final against Zamalek after going down to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 decider.
Sundowns will host the Egyptian giants in the first leg at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, looking to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Wits earlier in the month.
“It’s a big lesson what we learnt. We love learning and we can’t choose the way we learn sometimes. That defeat was a wake-up call for us,” says Zimbabwe international Billiat.
“I’m sure we are ready for anything right now and we don’t want to do the same mistake. We can make mistakes that we never done before, we are strong, we watch our games. We even watch the game we lost to be better in the next game.
“We don’t want to lose again, it was so hard to digest. But at the end of the day, we don’t have much time to cry and mourn. We have to come back and do things right.”
The Brazilians beat Zamalek home and away earlier in the competition thanks partly to good tactics, according to the PSL Footballer of the Year.
“We just have to make sure that we do the corrections right. I think in those matches we beat them, we got the tactics right,” he says.
“We knew exactly what to expect and it came out exactly like that. It was easy for us to deal with them.
“Hopefully, there is not much change because we know them very well, but there is always a surprise on the day.”Advertisement
