A 22-YEAR-OLD Chitungwiza man reportedly strangled his father to death over an undisclosed dispute and tried to stage-manage a suicide in a bid to cover-up the murder.

Ngonidzashe Albert Chiwa was this Monday hauled before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa who denied him bail.

According to prosecutors, after killing his father, Richard Pascal Chiwa whose age was not given, Chiwa spent a night with the corpse in the house before he went to report the death.

He claimed to have found his father dead in his bedroom.

The incident occurred on earlier this month.

According to the State, the accused had a long-standing domestic dispute with his father.

“The two did not get along too well to the extent that the deceased had sought for protection order against his son,” said prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa.

Court heard Chiwa killed his father by strangling him.

He then placed a bottle containing some blue substance beside his father’s bed so it to appear as if he had taken the liquid.

He then reported the death the following morning.

Post-mortem results however, showed that the father succumbed to strangulation.

Court heard he was the only one at home when his father died.

Upon being interviewed, Chiwa failed to give a satisfactory explanation, leading to his arrest.
