CROSS border smuggling of drugs and substances is continuing but authorities are equally putting up a sustained fight against the vice.
In a latest development, police in Beitbridge arrested a 41-year-old man for attempting to smuggle 48 boxes laden with drugs and other substances.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The ZRP has arrested Venancio Muchazondida (41) and recovered 48 boxes of smuggled drugs and substances at Beitbridge Border post, worth US$12,000.
“The drugs and substance were deceitfully concealed in Maq washing powder cardboard boxes and wrapped with black plastics to evade detection at the border.
“The police also confiscated a Nissan Elgrant vehicle, registration number ADG 3066 used as a conduit to smuggle the drugs. No to drug and substance peddling and trafficking,” sais Nyathi.
