Man stabbed while attempting to save uncle from attacker

A beer brawl nearly turned fatal, after a 20 year old man now battling for his life, was stabbed in his upper body with a knife whilst trying to resolve a dispute between his uncle and a friend at a beer drink.

Police confirmed the incident, adding they are treating the matter as an attempted murder.

According to police, Tichaona Masango, 20, was stabbed by Tafadzwa Mutengo, 22, who was having a verbal altercation with Chrispen Masango .

The incident took place at Chisumba Growth point in Chisumbanje’s Mvuyana village, Chipinge district.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said on March 23, around 19 00hrs, Mutengo had a misunderstanding with Chrispen and they started exchanging harsh words.

The altercation degenerated into a fist fight and Chrispen was overpowered by Mutengo.

Tichaona could not stomach his uncle being overpowered and he intervened to stop the fight.

This forced Mutengo to draw a knife and stabbed Tichaona on the ribs. The victim sustained a deep cut.

He was rushed to the nearest clinic before being transferred to Mutare Provincial Hospital for further medical attention.

The matter was reported to Chisumbanje police station leading to Mutengo’s arrest. He is set to appear in court soon.
