A HARARE woman is lucky to be alive after she was attacked with an iron bar by her son whom she had mistakenly locked in the family’s house recently, court heard on Friday.
Tawanda Mazibisa, aged 39, struck her mother leaving her for dead at their Warren Park home, Harare September 5 this year.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing attempted murder charges.
Mazibisa was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.
The court heard that after his mother Slender Mazibisa (61) had realised the mistake and opened the door for her son, he hatched a plan to get back at her.
Tawanda admitted to committing the offence but said the State papers had exaggerated circumstances surrounding the incident.
Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on September 5, around midnight, the mother was having her routine prayers when Tawanda got into her bedroom and began bashing her.
The court heard that he used an iron bar and assaulted his mother all over her body.
It was further alleged the woman managed to escape from the house and ran into the streets but Tawanda followed her and continued with the attack.
He only ran stopped the attack when he heard a motor vehicle approach.
The woman sustained a deep cut on the head and reported the case to the police before being referred to the hospital for treatment.
Her son was later arrested and will be back in court on September 26 for trial.
