Mapeza in positive Africa start as FC Platinum dismiss Mozambicans in friendly tie

Champions FC Platinum got off to an impressive start in their preparation for the continental tournament with a win against Ferraviaro De Beira of Mozambique in an International friendly match at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
FC Platinum square up against the Angola’s Desportivo de Agosto in the preliminary round of CAF Champions League with the first leg set for February 11 in Angola.
To prepare for this crunch tie, the Zvishavane-based side has lined up three international friendlies that will also feature Nkana Red Devils and Zanaco of Zambia.
The Pure Platinum Play acquired a number of experienced players including two foreigners from Cameroon and Zambia to bolster their squad ahead of the African sojourn and their domestic title defence.
Their fans thronged Mandava stadium to catch a glimpse of their new acquisitions and gauge the team’s level of preparedness.
Norman Mapeza named a strong squad made up of the bulk of the championship winning team and included two debutants Never Tigere and Rahman Kutsanzira.
The match got off to a slow pace in the searing Zvishavane heat as both teams struggled to find their rhythm.
However, FC Platinum later took control of the match with Tigere and Kutsanzira combining well with Rodwell Chinyengetere and Ali Sadiki in the middle of the park.
The quartet took turns to waste opportunities and they could be forgiven since it was their first match of the season.
The Mozambican side, which at time looked vulnerable, managed to hold on until halftime without conceding a goal.
Six minutes into the second half, Chinyengetere surged forward and delivered a perfect pass to an impressive Tigere who selflessly laid the ball to an unmarked Mkhokheli Dube who coolly slotted the ball past Ferraviaro goalkeeper Soares Soares to break the deadlock.
Both coaches made several changes as fatigue took hold of the players and to give a run to others players.
Mapeza expressed satisfaction with the performance of his team adding that he was mainly focused on their endurance more than the result.
“In terms of our endurance levels, I am very happy and it was not about the result,” he said.
Mapeza singled out two of his new signings Tigere and Kutsanzira pointing out that they made a huge impression in their first game for the club.Advertisement

Their next game is against Zanaco on January 30 before hosting Nkana Red Devils on February 3.
