Mapeza relief as FC Platinum crush Tsholotsho

FC Platinum 3-0 Tsholotsho
FC PLATINUM responded in style to an indifferent start to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on Friday when they crushed Tsholotsho 3-0 in a match played at Mandava Stadium to bring their four match losing streak to a halt.
Having picked up just four points from six matches, Platinum badly needed the win and, after a frustrating opening 45 minutes, they returned a better side with goals from Brian Muzondiwa and a double from Walter Musona.
Coach Norman Mapeza made some changes to his team, benching regular number one and captain Petros Mhari for Francis Tizayi while Aaron Katebe, Tarisai Rukanda and Wisdom Mutasa were also on the bench.
Platinum felt they should have had a penalty in the 29th minute when striker Donald Ngoma was fouled by Under 23 midfielder Godfrey Takwara inside the box, but instead he was given a yellow card for simulation.
Ten minutes later Allen Gahadzikwa charged into the box and with a chance to shoot at goal chose to pass the ball to Brian Muzondiwa, who shot high and wide.
Three minutes into the second half, Winston Mhango came close but could not beat Chang Mariyoni in goal for Tsholotsho.
But the breakthrough finally arrived two minutes to the hour when Muzondiwa profited from a Ngoma run to tuck the ball past an advancing Mariyoni for the opener, much to the relief of under pressure Mapeza.
Looking to add more firepower for a cushion goal, Mapeza brought in Mutasa for Wellington Kamudyariwa as Tsholotsho sought to level matters.
In the 78th minute, Rukanda was tripped in the box from behind as he went for goal and this time the referee awarded the spot-kick which Under 23 striker Walter Musona slotted home to make it 2-0.
Ten minutes from time, Musona completed his brace with a simple tap in.
With the win, Platinum moved into ninth place from 13th with seven points, displacing Harare City who travel to Triangle on Sunday.
