FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza says the team is ready for the CAF Champions league after his side was held to a stalemate by visiting Nkana Football Club at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
The Zimbabwe PSL Champions leave for Angola this week for their crunch preliminary round clash against Desportivo de Agosto of Angola next Saturday in Luanda.
They host the Angolan giants in the second leg at Mandava Stadium the following weekend.
Mapeza fielded a strong team against the Zambians, which gave the slightest hint that these were his trusted lieutenants for the big match in Angola.
While there was fluidity in their play the coaches would be worried about the failure to get goals which are the most important in a knockout competition.
Mapeza`s chief marksman Mkhokheli Dube who scored the only goal against Ferroviaro De Beira of Mozambique in their first friendly match, did not have a single shot at goal with the threat coming from the attacking midfielders.
The Pure Platinum Play only managed five shots on target the whole afternoon despite enjoying the larger share of the possession.
Speaking to the media after the match, Mapeza said he was happy with the performance of his players, declaring that they were almost ready for the Angola match.
“We had so many opportunities to score this afternoon and we defended very well. We are there; we just need to work on the sharpness of the players.
“We are now ready, I can say ninety five percent ready for the Angolans,” said Mapeza.
Nkana coach Manfred Chabinga revealed that he was impressed with FC Platinum`s performance and tipped them to go further the continental competition.
“I think they will make it,” declared Chabinga.
“They have the potential to go the next round. It is all about teamwork and hardwork, they will make it they are a good side.”Advertisement
