Mapeza vows to defend Uhuru Cup against Dynamos

FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza has vowed to defend the Uhuru Cup against familiar opponents Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Mapeza’s side overcame Caps United 6-5 on penalties in midweek after the two teams had been deadlocked 0-0 in regulation time to set up a dream Independence Cup final against Dynamos who defeated ZPC Kariba 2-0 in the other semi-final at Rufaro.
Allan Gahadzikwa, Thabani Kamusoko, Raphael Mudhuviwa, Wellington Kamudyariwa, Kelvin Moyo and Simon Shoko scored their spot-kicks for FC Platinum, while Rodrick Mutuma, Dominic Mukandi, Ronald Pfumbidzayi, Moses Muchenje and Stephen Makatuka converted theirs for the Green Machine.
Francis Tizayi saved efforts of Crispen Machisi and Leonard Fiyado which was enough for Pure Platinum to reach their second successive final.
Mapeza praised his charges for managing to brush aside Caps United and vowed to defend the cup against Dynamos.
“We played some good football especially in the second half and I am happy for the boys,” Mapeza said.
“The cup is here with us and we just have to go there and defend it against Dynamos. We did it last year and I don’t see why we cannot do it again.”
Last season FC Platinum beat Dynamos 3-0 on penalties after they had been tied 1-1 and will be looking to repeat the same feat.
Mapeza has been previously under pressure after a poor start in the campaign, but now appears to be getting the backing of the supporters.
