THE Welshman Ncube led MDC has claimed an assassination plot on party deputy President Edwin Mushoriwa who on Friday survived a car accident involving a member of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) who immediately fled the scene.

Party spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said the founding former MDC-T legislator was driving from an MDC-T Alliance rally together with four others when the accident happened.

“The MDC deputy President Cde Edwin Mushoriwa was involved in a road accident along Harare drive Saturday evening while travelling from an MDC Alliance rally held in Kotwa,” Chihwayi said.

“All the four occupants escaped unhurt when their vehicle was hit by a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative who fled the scene at high speed with the damaged deputy President’s car in hot pursuit.

“The MDC is not ruling out foul play at the moment given Zanu PF’s elimination history and CIO linkage to mysterious accidents.”

Chihwayi said they came to know about the operative’s employment status when he later produced his service card instead when police had asked him for a driver’s licence.

Asked why the party would rush to suspect an attempt on its leader’s life when accidents are common, Chihwayi said it was possible to experience State plots against opposition leaders’ lives during the electoral period.

“As a political player, we don’t take these hit and run accidents lightly especially if they happen during election period,” he said.

Mushoriwa was elected party deputy president during an MDC congress in 2011.

But the former legislator has largely remained under the shadow of his more prominent boss, Ncube and is hardly in the news for any reason.
