Mimosa to launch full investigations in miner’s death

ZVISHAVANE: Mimosa Platinum Mine in Zvishavane has said will carry out thorough investigations into the death of one of its miners, Eric Mukazi who was crushed by a falling rock.
The mine’s executive chairman, Winston Chitando said the company had a zero tolerance to accidents adding that a full investigation would be carried out to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the miner.
“We are going to carry out a thorough investigation in the circumstances surrounding the death of one of our miners,” Chitando said at the handover of mining equipment by the company to small scale miners in Zvishavane.
“We have a zero tolerance to accidents and full investigations will be carried out.”
Speaking at the same occasion, Mines and Mining Development minister, Walter Chidhakwa said mines that do no prioritise the safety of workers saying the country cannot afford to lose skilled manpower due to accidents.
He said small scale miners should also ensure that the safety of workers was a top priority as they carry out their activities.
During 2014 Mimosa recorded no fatalities and the mine achieved more than four million fatality-free shifts by the end of last year.Advertisement
