SOME local medical practitioners are angry at the conduct of one Dr P Mugoni who stunned the country by openly weeping claiming he had been overwhelmed by President Mnangagwa’s government’s support to the medical profession.

Mugoni surprised thousands of Zanu PF supporters including Mnangagwa who were a youth rally in Gweru, Thursday after ‘breaking down’ while delivering a solidarity speech extolling the Zanu PF leader’s virtues.

The medic is an official with the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA).

But in a scathing statement, former leaders of the ZHDA demanded that Mugoni face disciplinary action for his meltdown.

“The council of former national executive members of ZHDA has noted with great concern the recent developments pertaining to meddling of ZHDA office bearers in activities of political parties.

“Specifically, we note the incredulous conduct and utterances made by Dr P Mugoni at a Zanu PF rally in Gweru where he conflated his political opinions and those of all government employed doctors,” the stinging statement reads.

The former ZHDA officials said while they had no problem with Mugoni’s political choices and freedoms, “we are enraged by the politicization of the ZHDA.”

“The ZHDA is a profession body that represents the interests of all government employed doctors regardless of political party affiliation.

“We join Zimbabwean across the country who have in their different forums deplored such conduct and strongly encourage the current leadership at the ZHDA to immediately take stern action against Dr Mugoni.”

The medical practitioners urged the ZHDA to suspend Mugoni pending an investigation into his conduct and put in place a code of ethics that guide the action of both officials as well as members of the association.

Mugoni’s actions sent social media into meltdown with many condemning his antics.
