INFORMATION Minister Jonathan Moyo this week revealed that an audit into the finances of the beleaguered Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has been completed with the final report soon to be released.
Moyo told legislators Wednesday that he expected the final report within the next few days.
“The preliminary report of the audit was submitted two weeks ago and the final one is expected within the next few days. The salaries at ZBC were not reduced but they were regularised,” said the minister.
“There are people at the ZBC who do not deserve to be there and it is people like these who tend to benefit more because of the very fact that they should not be there.
Moyo ordered the audit last year after management failed to come up with a turnaround programme for the broadcaster which is said to be choking from a debt of about US$40 million.
ZBC’s monthly revenues reportedly top US$275,000 per month against a budget of US$2,3 million of which US$1,6 million should go to salaries.
However, workers went for seven months without pay last year while management drew huge pay packages with CEO Happison Muchechetere earning about $40,000 per month.
Muchechetere has since been suspended while the corporation’s board which was headed by the disgraced Cuthbert Dube was fired.Advertisement
