THE President of the secessionist Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), Mqondisi Moyo has chickened out of the presidential race, claiming that the party’s participation in the presidential vote would not add any value to the people of Matebeleland.

Addressing journalists at the Bulawayo Media Centre recently, Moyo said he will represent the party as a parliamentary candidate in Matobo North Constituency.

The MRP president also confirmed that the party will field candidates in all the constituencies and wards in Matebeleland and parts of the Midlands provinces.

“We would like to announce our non- participation in the presidential vote. We are coming in the political terrain to prove to our people that what they need is not a president but political power. Surely, the marginalisation of Mthwakazi people has not been by a president but by a political organism that controls the leavers of power,” said Moyo.

He the previous and current presidents have been more detrimental in the region than useful.

“We need political power than a president. We will fight tirelessly for democratic pluralism as we march towards the total restoration of our nation. We urge our people to vote for MRP for the control of our local governance and representation parliament,” he said.

Asked which presidential candidate his party will rally behind during the July 30 elections, Moyo said they will not support any candidate from other political outfits.

“We will not support any Harare-based candidate. We are urging our supporters not to vote for anyone from Harare,” added Moyo.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), a total of 133 political parties are registered with the electoral body.

Of all the registered political parties, only the Nelson Chamisa led MDC –T poses a major challenge to the ruling Zanu PF.
