Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) president Mqondisi Moyo and two party officials have been issued with summons to appear in court Tuesday to answer public violence charges after they distributed fliers at a Highlanders match last year.
According to the summons, Moyo, Mxolisi Mhlanga and Welcome Moyo are facing charges of participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence.
In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, the MRP president described the charges as trumped-up and denied distributing the fliers.
“The police are accusing us of distributing fliers at Barbourfields stadium during a match between Highlanders Football Club and Manica Diamonds Football Club on 24 November 2019. We never distributed the fliers. We are being victimised for nothing,” said Moyo.
The three are being represented by Dumisani Dube of Abammeli Lawyers for Human Rights network.
