Mukanya arrives for two UK shows

CHIMURENGA music icon Thomas Tafirenyika Mapfumo will this weekend hold two shows in the United Kingdom where he will also be marketing his new album dubbed ‘The DangerZone”.
The 70-year-old Mukanya, as he is affectionately known by his fans, was last in the UK in 2012.
He failed to hold a similar show in UK last September after the tour was cancelled due of visa complications.
Mukanya is expected to entertain fans with the latest offerings from his new project which was launched a few months ago at the now defunct Book Café in Harare through a teleconference.
According to promoters G.I Promotions and Chimurenga Music Company, Mukanya’s first show will at Glasgow’s African Art Centre, Scotland this Friday.
He will then wind up the tour in Birmingham, England where he will perform at the Piccadilly Banqueting Suite on Saturday.
Mukanya says the “The DangerZone Tour” will also take him to Africa in September this year with shows lined up in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Promoters said “both shows (in the UK) will be opened by upcoming musician Larmont Chitepo with talented guitarist Zivai Guvheya backed by the Heritage Survival Band.
“Fans should look forward to new songs from his latest album DangerZone and other classics from the music legend’s rich discography dating back from the 70s.”
DangerZone talks about social, political and economic issues bedevilling Zimbabwe and proposes solutions of tackling them, chief among them changing the regime which has been at the helm of the country since independence.
Over his musical career which has spanned five decades now, Mapfumo has been critical to politicians and how they run and ruin (African) economies.Advertisement
