THE much-awaited Thomas Mapfumo show set for this weekend in the UK has been cancelled due to visa complications, the Chimurenga legend confirmed Friday.
Mapfumo was scheduled to perform in the one-off ‘Return of Mukanya’ show on Saturday at the Athena Conference & Banqueting in Leicester.
But VISA delays forced cancellation of the event in a development likely to disappoint fans who had eagerly waited for Mukanya’s return to the UK in over two years.
Explaining, Mapfumo said: “Our sincere apologies to Chimurenga across the world fans for the cancellation of our show in England due to visa delays. This does not mean were refused entry, no.
“The problem is that there just wasn’t enough time to process the paper work in time a challenge not helped by the UN general assembly in New York which, I think, the ambassador had to attend.
“So we were not able to get our papers processed in time. We deeply regret this unfortunate development.
“I can however, tell our fans that the much-talked about new CD, ‘Dangerzone’, is now available. I can assure them that this offering will not disappoint.
“That said, we appeal for your understanding over the cancellation of the UK show which will be rearranged in the near future.”
Mapfumo lives in exile in Oregon, the United States.Advertisement
