WARRIORS forward Knowledge Musona, says they will use September’s dead rubber qualifier visit to Guinea as a preparatory match for Gabon 2017 finals.
Zimbabwe beat Malawi 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday, to qualify for the Afcon finals for the third time ever in their history.
They booked a place for the tournament to be staged in Gabon in style with a match to spare.
In September, the Warriors will travel to Guinea for the final Group L match whose any result will not have any bearing on Zimbabwe except on the Fifa world rankings.
Coach Callisto Pasuwa’s men will not be under any pressure against Guinea who now even have faint hopes of qualifying as best runners-up. But Musona feels it is now time to start preparing for the Gabon tournament where Zimbabwe would be looking to progress past the group stages for the first time.
“It feels good to be part of this history-making team. As players we always felt it that we will qualify for Gabon,” Musona said.
“Now we are focused on the Guinea match. It does not matter that we have already qualified for Afcon so we are serious about this game. Guinea are a strong team so we will use it to prepare for Afcon. It will be like a friendly match to us to it is still an important game.”
Musona was on target on Sunday against Malawi to take his tally in this qualification campaign to three goals, the same number as managed by his close friend Khama Billiat.Advertisement
