FORMER Warriors defenders Method Mwanjali and Thomas Sweswe have become the latest players to have life bans on them lifted by Zifa for their alleged role in the Asiagate match-fixing scandal.
The duo were in 2012 barred from taking part in all football related activities by Zifa but were however lucky to continue with their careers with South African clubs after Fifa refused to effect worldwide bans on them.
After tasting freedom Mwanjali and Sweswe could be headed back home to resume their playing careers after spending more than a year without playing in South Africa.
Former Warriors fitness trainer Thompson Matenda and ex-goalkeeper coach Emmanuel Nyahuma have also been cleared.
Zifa spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the latest developments.
“The four have been cleared at the recommendations of the Zifa Disciplinary Committee whom they met recently.
“We can see more being cleared in the near future as part of our efforts to close the Asiagate scandal. We have to end all this soon and move on with our football,” Gwesela said.
Others also cleared recently include former Warriors defenders Guthrie Zhokinyu and Danisa Phiri as well as coach Sunday Chidzambwa who has already started work as new ZPC Kariba gaffer.Advertisement
