BENJANI Mwaruwari’s Sincil Bank Stadium debut has been put on hold after Lincoln City’s annual sponsors game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The former Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Portsmouth striker had been due to be the player/manager of the Sponsor’s Team against a Select Team made up of former Imps players.
But Tuesday’s inclement weather, which has left standing water on the pitch, means the game will have to be rescheduled.
It is unclear whether former Zimbabwe skipper Mwaruwari will be available for the fixture’s new date.
Benjani began his professional career in Zimbabwe and later joined South African club Jomo Comos before moving to Europe with Swiss club Grasshoppers and then to France with Auxerre.
He moved to England 2006, joining Portsmouth, where he spent two years.
Spells at Manchester City Sunderland, Blackburn and Pompey again followed before he returned to South Africa with Port Elizabeth-based Chippa United in 2012.
He ended his playing career in Johannesburg with Bidvest Wits.Advertisement
