NEWLY appointed Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya was on Wednesday officially unveiled by the troubled football giants, just a day after his predecessor Lloyd Chigowe was sent packing over a string of poor results.
The country’s Under-23 and former Ngezi Platinum Stars coach’s new job is his second stint at the helm of the popular club’s technical department after his sacking in 2015.
He told the media during the Wednesday ceremony at the National Sports Stadium that he was delighted to return to his boyhood club after a brief sabbatical since being fired by Ngezi Platinum stars last year.
“I’m very pleased to be back home after a brief sabbatical, but look, home is always home. Home is best and I’m very glad to be here.
“I’m glad to be given this enormous task as we all know this is a big brand and institution with big expectations. So really, it’s not an easy task.”
He added, “I would also like to extend my regards to the board for considering me at this very crucial moment, for having confidence in me and believing that I can move the team out of this mini crisis.
“I would like to really thank you and assure you that I can move the team forward.”
The former Dynamos midfielder however said he was aware of the difficult task he faces as he seeks to turn around the fortunes of a club that has uncharacteristically just won one out of its first four matches in the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race.
His first assignment will be against newly promoted TelOne at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
Ndiraya expressed confidence in the calibre of players in the squad which was assembled by his Chigowe.
Dynamos chairman Isaiah Mupfurutsa said Ndiraya will be engaged on a renewable one year contract and his mandate is to breathe life into the side’s faltering campaign.
“He’s a Dynamos son. He has been in Dynamos before. He has walked through all the rough terrain before and we are quite confident that he is also going to take us somewhere in our journey.
“He is actually going to start work with immediate effect and he’ll be conducting his first training session with the team soon after this unveiling,” Mupfurutsa said.
