Ndoro set for ABSA premiership comeback

By Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWE international striker Tendai Ndoro is reportedly on the verge of making a comeback to the South African Absa Premiership after resurfacing at newly promoted Highlands Park with a view of joining them this season, following his departure from Ajax Cape Town.

Ndoro is currently a free agent after leaving Ajax Cape Town in June by mutual consent following the Urban Warriors relegation to the second tier South African National First Division (NFD).

Ajax Cape Town were relegated to South Africa’s second division following a points deduction, for fielding Ndoro – who was later deemed ineligible to play – in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

The forward had featured for Orlando Pirates before short-lived stint in Saudi Arabia and eventually Ajax Cape Town which is in contravention of FIFA regulations.

The 33-year-old has attracted the attention of several clubs since leaving Ajax Cape Town with Kaizer Chiefs having previously expressed interest in signing the forward while Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United were also reportedly keeping tabs on the former Chicken Inn forward.

Ndoro however appears to have set sights on a move to Highlands Park as he seeks to revive his career.

Highlands head coach Owen da Gama on Monday confirmed that Ndoro and another former Orlando Pirates player Ayanda Gcaba are currently training with the club.

“Ja (yes), we are looking at them. Gcaba came last week, and Ndoro just joined us the day before yesterday [Saturday],” Da Gama told Kickoff.com.

“First and foremost is whether they will be affordable. Larry (director, Brookstone) is currently talking to their agents but nothing has been finalised.”

Highlands Park have accumulated two points from two matches this season following their promotion to the Absa Premiership. The Tembisa-based club next face defending league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday evening.
