UK: recently caught up with former Radio 3 presenter Kelvin Sifelani in London to talk about radio and music – the past, the somewhat uncertain present, and the future.
Ever modest, the ‘Soul Supreme’ demurred at being referred to as a Zim radio legend as we reminisced about the good old days.
He shared his views about the music that is coming out of Zimbabwe today and what needs to be done for the country to produce new global stars such as the Bhundu Boys, Oliver Mtukudzi and Thomas Mapfumo.
He is impressed with the creativity evident in the ZimDancehall genre but thinks they now need to sing beyond Zimbabwe as it were – that is come up with a product that works for both a Zim and a global audience as the Nigerians do.
And for his fans, well the man is back …
