1976 the 20th of March of a lovely Saturday after having some braaied Boewerwores I waited in anticipation for Ian Douglas Smith’s televised address. During his speech he said something so factual but all over the world and among Black Rhodesians he was misquoted.
With a bold face he said: “I don’t believe in majority rule ever in Rhodesia… not in 1,000 years.” He predicted that pure black majority rule, without the participation of experienced whites, would spell disaster for the country, and the result is there for all to see in the Zimbabwe of today.
“I have said before, and I repeat, we are prepared to bring black people into our Government to work with us. I think we have got to accept that in the future Rhodesia is a country for black and white, not white as opposed to black and vice versa. I believe this is wrong thinking for Rhodesia.
We have got to try to get people to change their line of thinking if they are still thinking like that. This is outdated in Rhodesia today. I don’t believe in majority rule ever in Rhodesia… not in 1,000 years. I repeat that I believe in blacks and whites working together. If one day it is white and the next day black I believe we would have failed and it will be a disaster for Rhodesia.”
Boy what a prophet! Ian Smith was smart; he had seen chaos that had taken place in other African countries. Today can a really educated and fair-minded black Rhodesian or any other person dispute that his prophecy was precise? I wonder especially when you look at sewage and garbage littered all over Salisbury and sophisticated Bulawayo Industry that was reduced to an unbelievable GHOST under so-called educated Moorgabie. It must be hugely embarrassing for the majority black Rhodesians to realize that in the end despite their misquoting him, Smith was right…and very correct.
Not in 1,000 years did not mean blacks were incapable but he meant blacks needed to be taught country management skills and financial discipline gradually before being allowed to govern themselves. Would one take his Ferrari and give it to a 16 year old without a driver’s licence to take a joy ride? Obvious the youngster will ram it like Moorgabie has rammed Rhodesia.
African Country Mismanagement Syndrome
I have visited almost all African countries; they all look the same-run down, dilapidated buildings and evident lack of maintenance. The African Country Mismanagement Syndrome just perplexes my sophisticated; brain nothing functions in Africa. Question is: Why? Of course they all point to the white-men LOL.Advertisement
With Britain, United Nations and USA putting pressure on our competent government to pave way for black majority rule in our lovely developed Rhodesia some of my black educated friends who were businessmen in Rhodesia expressed deep concern that once under black rule Rhodesia would be a failed country like all other African countries that had gained Independence earlier among them Guinea (October 2nd 1958), Kenya ( December 12th 1963), Lesotho (October 4th 1966), Madagascar (June 26th 1960), Malawi (July 6th 1964) ,Nigeria (October 1st, 1960), Rwanda (July 1st 1962),Uganda (October 9th; 1962), Zambia (October 24th; 1964).
All these nations that had celebrated taking over systems that had been established over centuries by white sweat turned all these places into unbelievable banana republics. Let me be not be racist at all but why do white managed countries look organized compared to blacks countries? Can someone answer me, please do not use colonialism as a damn excuse. I am tired of that damn boring broken song.
Corruption and disastrous management skills turned once beautiful nations into failed chaotic states .Sewage and garbage littered once beautiful cities that were managed by a few British whites, everything just crumbled. The childish Nationalists and freedom fighters are in power, they cried to be in power like spoiled children screaming for pacifiers yet they had zero country management skills to run sophisticated country systems that had been put in place by selfless hardworking whites. Moorgabie spends time being driven since 1980, I wonder whether he has a drivers’ licence or even knows how to operate a lawn mower, yet mighty Obama after his term he will drive, mow and water his own lawn. The African God Presidents once they taste power they become GOLDEN untouchable boys and lose touch with reality.
Really how can Moorgabie and his thugs know about filth in their country yet they spend 3/4 of their time in white managed countries? Bunch of hypocrites!
Ian Douglas Smith was not Racist
We all knew that the country was heading for disaster under raw untrained guerrillas; the world condemned Ian Smith as a racist, and regularly offered as proof of this a line from a speech he had made in 1976, taking great care (as is apparently the custom with today’s leftist press) not to quote the entire paragraph! The line quoted was always – “I don’t believe in majority rule ever in Rhodesia… not in 1000 years.” which gives the impression that Smith was totally opposed to having black Africans participate in ruling the country. Read the entire paragraph it becomes obvious that Smith was merely saying that neither race should rule exclusively.
He predicted that pure black majority rule, without the participation of experienced whites, would spell disaster for the country, and the result is there for all to see in the Rhodesia of today under Moorgabie.
It must be hugely embarrassing for the Rhodesian blacks who danced in jubilation in 1980 and world’s leftist press to realize that, in the end, despite their misquotes, Smith was right…again right.
Diversity is needed to make a country prosperous
A small number of people of European ethnicity first came to Southern Rhodesia as settlers during the late nineteenth century hence amazing development started.
A steady immigration of white people continued for about the next 75 years. The White population of Rhodesia reached a peak of about 296 000 in 1975. If the guerrillas had not taken over, there would be over 4 Million white people in Rhodesia all in search of the Rhodesian golden dream established by Ian Douglas Smith. For those who lived in Rhodesia you all remember black Zambians and Malawians who ran away from their Independent countries they had fought for to look for a better life and jobs in a white ruled Rhodesia. Then some bloody liars tell me Rhodesia was a racist state! Oh please give me a break.
In conclusion, reflect on the POWERFUL words from Ian Douglas Smith’s heart.
I don’t believe in majority rule ever in Rhodesia… not in 1000 years. I repeat that I believe in blacks and whites working together. If one day it is white and the next day black I believe we have failed and it will be a disaster for Rhodesia.”
And yes it is DISASTER TODAY
Piece of advice for all those 4 million black Rhodesians living in white countries: learn, learn and learn from the WHITES in the UK, Canada and the USA and just take those skills back to rebuild Rhodesia. 36 years is more than enough for one fool to keep on re-writing corrections and not getting it right.
