ORLANDO Pirates coach Eric Tinkler has backed new Zimbabwean signing Tendai Ndoro to succeed at the Bucaneers as he struggles to adjust with the pressure that comes with playing for a big club like Pirates.
Ndoro did not enjoy the best of debuts in the 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United in a game which started on Tuesday and concluded Wednesday.
The Absa Premiership opener started as scheduled on Tuesday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane but had to be called off due to a floodlights failure.
SuperSport then edged Pirates when action resumed mi-day Wednesday.
Ndoro missed a few chances before being substituted after 55 minutes.
But Tinkler remains confident that the former Mpumalanga Black Aces striker will come right – if given time.
“This is one thing that people need to understand … it is never easy to make a debut at a big club like Pirates,” the coach told Kick Off.com.
“The pressure is always going to be there. The expectations are very high and there were moments in a game obviously I don’t think he performed to his best ability.
“But there was a moment where he was a headache for the two central defenders. He tried to create himself a couple of chances.
“But he can only grow from here. Sometimes people must understand that you have to give a guy time to get into the team; to get a good understanding of what it is like to play for Pirates.
“We have fans that are demanding; they expect immediate results and that sometimes can actually work against the player.”
Ndoro’s next chance to prove himself comes on Tuesday, when Pirates face Chippa United.
