Oxford business school: What diversity is not

CORPORATES often take the view that diversity is about a multiplicity of colours – white, black, yellow – and genders in the boardroom and on the shop-floor.
Not quite. Addressing this year’s Africa Business Forum at Oxford’s Said Business School last Saturday Dalberg Group executive director James Irungu Mwangi said gathering together a multiplicity of colours and genders from, say Harare alone, does not represent diversity.
Yvonne Ike – Managing Director, Bank of America Merrill Lynch Sub Saharan Africa – said companies also needed to rethink the idea and transition towards Individual, rather than, Corporate social responsibility.
