WARRIORS coach Kalisto Pasuwa has been asked to submit a report on the disastrous 2016 African Nations Championship on Monday by the ZIFA High Performance Committee (HPC) as speculation over his future refuses to go away.
ZIFA board member development and the chairman of the High Performance Committee in charge of all national teams, Edzai Kasinauyo said on Sunday Pasuwa would submit a report on Monday after which they would meet to review the team’s performance.
“We have asked Pasuwa to submit a report on the Chan tournament and we will be meeting as a Committee this week to come up with recommendations which will be forwarded to the ZIFA board. We can only comment after discussing the report from the technical committee,” said Kasinauyo.
There is speculation over Pasuwa’s future as coach of the Warriors following a disappointing African Nations Championship (Chan) campaign in Rwanda where they failed to progress to the last eight of the tournament after finishing last in Group D that also had neighbours Zambia, Mali and Uganda.
The Warriors who squandered several opportunities, lost 1-0 to Zambia in the opening match courtesy of a strike by veteran Zambia forward Isaac Chansa and needed to beat Mali to enhance their chances of qualification but fell 1-0 before allowing Uganda to come back from behind and steal a point at the death in the final group match after William Manondo had thrust them in the lead with a powerful drive.
They returned home with just a single point.
Should Zifa decide to part ways with Pasuwa, they will have to hire somebody immediately as the Warriors are set to resume their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers which start in March with a trip to Swaziland before hosting them in Harare a week a later.
Zimbabwe, who defeated the Flames of Malawi 2-1 and drew 1-1 with Guinea share top spot in Group L with Swaziland on four points.Advertisement
