NATIONAL Under-23 coach Kallisto Pasuwa has set his sights on a good run at next month’s Cosafa Cup with the senior national team.
With no Warriors coach in place, Pasuwa assumes the role of leading the senior team at the tournament.
“It is a great honour for me as a coach as this is one of the biggest tournaments on our continent and so important for our region.
“We could be meeting some of the best teams in Africa with the likes of Ghana, Zambia and South Africa, and we want to get back among that level,” Pasuwa told
Zimbabwe are in Group A with Namibia, Seychelles and Mauritius. The winner of the group proceeds to meet Zambia in the quarter finals.
“Football has changed a lot in the recent past and there are now no small teams,” said Pasuwa.
“We cannot underestimate any of our opponents as they will all provide a challenge to us. We can be confident of winning matches, but know that it will take hard work.
“It all comes down to how you prepare for these matches and we need to make sure we are in the best shape possible going into the tournament.
“We desperately want to get out of the pool and get into the quarterfinals where Zambia waits. That will help us improve as a team,” Pasuwa said.
The former Dynamos coach is yet to name the squad for the tournament.
Zimbabwe finished as runners-up at the last Cosafa edition hosted by Zambia in 2013.
