Meeting President Higgins’ dog, sipping on tall pints of beer and now, breaking royal protocol – Prince William has been having a pretty good time in Ireland.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started their short tour on Tuesday. William and Kate said their royal visit would see them in Dublin, County Meath, County Kildare and Galway, to highlight and reinforce links between the UK and Ireland and see the amazing work being done by the Irish.
On Wednesday, the royals stopped by Jigsaw, a mental health support service for young people, cooked up a storm at Savannah House and visited Teagasc Research Farm to walk among the cows before giving an impassioned speech about the unbreakable bond between England and Ireland.
On the same day, Prince William broke royal protocol when he stopped to take a selfie with Jennifer, a royal fan.
Of course, royals aren’t allowed to take selfies – it’s considered disrespectful to turn your back to a royal when taking a selfie, you also can’t just walk up to and talk to a royal, reports Insider.
According to HELLO! Magazine, the queen says it’s bad manners to be staring at a screen with others around. She finds selfies “disconcerting” and “strange”.
But it seems as though William just couldn’t resist. Donna Malone told E! News, “It was very emotional.
“He came over to Jennifer, and she gave him a bunch of daffodils for Kate. He told her he loved her jersey. She gave him a big hug.”
