Prophet bailed for rape arrested for attempted murder; man wrapped in fish-net with 45kg rock and dumped into a dam

A SELF-STYLED Budiriro prophet, who was earlier this year convicted for rape and bailed pending appeal, has been arrested for the attempted murder.

Herbet Thabo Senda, 35, was hauled before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje after he tried to kill one Blessing Chimbadzo, 27, by bundling him into to a fishing net and tying a 45kg rock to him before throwing him into a dam.

The case was postponed to next month for trial with magistrate Mambanje ordered the accused to apply for bail at the High Court.

According to the State, the prophet committed the offence on June 15 this year in connivance with two accomplices who are still on the run. One accomplice has been identified as Ishmael Mahachi.

Court heard that on the day of the incident, the trio went to the complainant’s home armed with knives and steel rods and confronted Chimbadzo, threatening to kill him.

Chimbadzo was then blindfolded after which the party drove to Southlea Park Dam.

The suspects trio wrapped him in a fishing net together with stone weighing 45kgs before they dumped him into the dam.

Chimbazo was rescued by witnesses who saw the three committing the offence and later helped him to report the case to the police.

Senda was, three months ago, freed on bail by a High Court judge pending appeal in a rape case.

He was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by a Harare magistrate Hosea Mujaya early this year.

Senda was convicted of raping a 26-year-old woman who had a swollen tummy during cleansing ceremony at his shrine.
